72 nd anniversary of pearl harbor

The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of December 7, 1941 (December 8 in Japan). The attack led to the United States' entry into World War II. The attack was intended as a preventive action in order to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions the Empire of Japan was planning in Southeast Asia against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States. There were simultaneous Japanese attacks on the U.S.-held Philippines and on the British Empire in Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong. From the standpoint of the defenders, the attack commenced at 7:48 a.m. Hawaiian Time. The base was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. All eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with four being sunk. All but one were later raised, and six of the eight battleships returned to service and fought in the war. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship, and one minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed; 2,402 Americans were killed and 1,282 wounded. Important base installations such as the power station, shipyard, maintenance, and fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well as the submarine piers and headquarters building (also home of the intelligence section) were not attacked. Japanese losses were light: 29 aircraft and five midget submarines lost, and 65 servicemen killed or wounded. One Japanese sailor was captured. The attack came as a profound shock to the American people and led directly to the American entry into World War II in both the Pacific and European theaters. The following day (December 8), the United States declared war on Japan. Domestic support for non-interventionism, which had been strong, disappeared. Clandestine support of Britain (for example the Neutrality Patrol) was replaced by active alliance. Subsequent operations by the U.S. prompted Germany and Italy to declare war on the U.S. on December 11, which was reciprocated by the U.S. the same day. There were numerous historical precedents for unannounced military action by Japan. However, the lack of any formal warning, particularly while negotiations were still apparently ongoing, led President Franklin D. Roosevelt to proclaim December 7, 1941, "a date which will live in infamy".

the meaning of the color purple

Purple combines the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. The color purple is often associated with royalty, nobility, luxury, power, and ambition. Purple also represents meanings of wealth, extravagance, creativity, wisdom, dignity, grandeur, devotion, peace, pride, mystery, independence, and magic.
The color purple has a variety of effects on the mind and body, including uplifting spirits, calming the mind and nerves, enhancing the sacred, creating feelings of spirituality, increasing nurturing tendencies and sensitivity, and encouraging imagination and creativity. Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color. Most children love the color purple. Purple is the color most favored by artists. Thursday's color is purple. Purple is used in people's lives to use your imagination, re-balance your life, remove obstacles, or to calm over activity or from depression. The earliest purple dyes date back to about 1900 B.C. It took some 12,000 shellfish to extract 1.5 grams of the pure dye. That is why royalty and the rich wore purple.

Pissed Christ

In class on Friday, Mr. Sweeney shown us a picture of Jesus on the cross and expand to us that he was going to give us more details about the picture and that we had to write how we felt about it. At first I thought the artist was making it seem like the picture was taken in that time period and that it had a nice glow on Jesus. Or the picture was taken from a scene of the movie "The Passion of Christ." Then he told us the title of the picture was called "Pissed Christ." I felt that it was wrong on some many levels. No matter what, i feel that it is wrong to piss on anything besides in the toilet. It was ruse and disrespectful and If I had to the chance to I would slap the artist. Then I was mad because he gotten grant money to do this. That money could of went towards something else. Why would tax payers pay artist to make art. Like, look at the world and all the problems we have. Tax payer's money should be put to use for those things not art.

Group 3 for Grammar Schmammar

Today, they did a good job with there presentation. They all work together as a team and I really like that. They were very prepared and they practice it. They had good information and good example. During the examples, if you guess it right I got candy. That was a plus because that gave us a good reason to pay attention. They really gave me a good outlook of how I can improve for our next grammar schmammar. We are going to pass out candy (if we have the money for it) and combine all our information together instead if everyone having different stuff.

My group's grammar schmammar

When we presented of grammar schmammar we suck as an unit! But it was really fun. I am glad that we are doing these grammar schmammars. For one it gives me a chance to get to know the person in my group (Jacob and Rita); even though it is only three of us. We all are goofy in a way but Jacob is really funny. So as we were presenting he kept making us laugh. And just making us feel comfortable. We did a pretty good job and we had some good information. But we still suck as an unit. But next grammar schammar we are going to improve.

our group meeting

Today I meet up with my group Jacob and Rita to work on our grammar schmammar Project. I felt really bad because I was like 40 minutes late to the meeting and I was the one who plan it. I hate being late and I am pretty much always on time. See what happened was, as I was walking into my room all my roommates were in this big agreement. I did not know what to do or what was going on. So I try my best to calm everyone down and sit and talk. After a while everything to talk out and everything was okay. As soon as that was over I had to run over to the library so we could work on our grammar schmammar. I told Jacob and Rita what happen and they were very understanding. Then we start work on the project. And I had too much information on passive voice so I had to cut off some things.  But overall everything went okay so far.

learning to read and write

Learning how to read and write was kind of a struggle for me. Because it was not always that easy for me like the other students in my class. Reading and writing has always been challenging for me. I used to always get pick on and was always called slow stupid and other things. I hurt but it never stop me from trying. Even though kids thought i was slow, I was actually the smartest kid in class .I had a stuttering problem and i could not say some word correctly. But later on i learned to stop it. I learned that the main reason why I had so many problems with reading and writing was because i have a mid-chase of Dyslexia. But i still do not let it get in the way of learning how to read and write. So when i write, i use big hand writing to make it easier for me. And when i am reading, i highlight important facts or key words.
